| Frequently Asked Questions Welcome to LAN 101 1. What is a “LAN Party”? LAN is simply an abbreviation for Local Area Network. A LAN Party is where a bunch of likeminded people get together to play games, share expertise and socialise in a generally hi-tech environment. A Valhalla LAN Party consists of a wide range of games and competitions across many platforms, including PC, Xbox, PS3 and Wii. 2. What do I need to bring to a LAN Party? Valhalla provides: Valhalla is defined as BYOC - that is Bring Your Own Computer/Console and all the associated gear you need to run it. This should include: - the console/computer Its important to have an up to date antivirus prior to coming to the event. It may also assist you prevent problems by updating your Windows install (or other operating system), Steam (if you use it), and any games you play before hand. Unless advised, Valhalla will always stage competitions based on the latest version. You may not need any of the above if you are playing in our hosted events - these include PS3 and Nintendo titles, generally fighting competitions and Wii Sports. We also host Guitar Hero and Rock band related competitions with two divisions based on the skill level of the entrant. 3. What games do people play? You might be surprised. Valhalla supports a wide range of PC tournaments including - Valhalla also supports a range of console competitions, including Halo 3, Gears of War 2, Call of Duty World at War, Tekken 5, Soul Calibur IV, Streetfighter IV, Guitar Hero, Rock band, Wii Sports and many more.
Competition lists and Timetables can be found on the website 30 days prior to the next event. You can feel free to suggest competitions or games to the lan via email to the committee or posting in the apropriate forum. 4. What food and drink is provided? The St Clair canteen is open throughout the event and has reasonably priced fast food (pies, pasties, sausage rolls, hot dogs) and drink available throughout the event. Subway take orders and deliver on site, with footlong subs, cookies and drinks available until midnight of the event. You can also opt to bring your own supplies to the venue. 5. Where is the event held? For the last 10 years Valhalla has been held at the St Clair Recreation centre, 101 Woodville Road, Woodville. (Very close to the Woodville Railway Station) 6. How many people attend the event? Attendances vary, but average attendance are in excess of 200. 7. How can I be involved? An event like Valhalla is always looking for committed admins to assist us in the good work we perform each and every event. Dedicated Servers You can bring dedicated game servers to the event, they should be handed to the Network Admin (At this time Aetherone) who will place them in the server farm. You may NOT bring dedicated file servers to the event, and if these are discovered they may be disconnected. 9. Do i need a ticket or reservation? Yes, ideally you need both.
